Many enthusiastic runners came early for the annual Thornborough Fun Run on Bank Holiday Monday (May 7th). The atmosphere at the event was great again this year, buzzing with excitement before the start and plenty going on throughout the event. The weather was fabulous, which is probably why the numbers running were down on previous years, nonethless it was excellent for the spectators.
In view of the weather forecast the Thornborough Sports & Social Club had made arrangements for extra water this year, which was much appreciated by the runners at the 7 water stations along the route and especially at the finish. The BBQ was very much appreciated and sold out before the end. Thornborough Methodist Chapel sold tea and cakes and allowed the use of their toilets. Many thanks to them and all our marshals, water stations and other helpers, a special mention to Helen in the Lead Car, Steve on the microphone, Julie and David for the Fun Run organisation.
It was a low entry of about 150 runners of which over 10% were 10-milers. We often have runners from running clubs far and wide, Milton Keynes, Alchester Running Club, Bearbrook Joggers, Brackley Running Club, Buckingham and Stowe Running Club, Eynsham Road Runners, Olney Runners, Silson Joggers, many from Thornborough of course and also occasional runners from far away countries.
John Russell won the Thornborough-10 mile with Jenny Mcbain close behind. Winning Vets were Christopher Noble (also last years winner) and Pauline Lucas. The 5-mile Fun Run was won by Sam Dix and Emily Hinton (who also won the under 13 age category). Other Trophy winners were Toby Williams, Piper Cisswell, Angus Morris, James Taylor and Judy Barfoot.
